MANILA,PHILIPPINES (TNC) | Philippine Senator “Noynoy” Aquino (Liberal) has become the Philippines’ next President succeeding unpopular President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (Lakas CMD). He will take office on June 30th. The election was held on May 10, but voting problems caused a delay in official results. Aquino is the son of Former President Corazon Aquino, who passed away last August. “Cory” Aquino led the People’s Power Revolution that ousted authoritarian President Marcos after her husband was assassinated in Manila’s Airport after exile in the U.S.
